Hoodie Of My Dreams

A good friend of mine will, quite frequently, show up wearing something new and extraordinarily cute. I'll ask this good friend of mine, "where did you get that!?"

And she always answers, Plato's Closet.

I've been itching to go, but never have.

Until this weekend, with my fabulous sister.

We stopped by, and did some hard-core shopping. She got some extremely lovely and sensual items. Seriously. Ask about the dress with the belt and the boots.

And I got a hoodie. Not just any hoodie, the most perfect hoodie my mind could ever have fathomed. Blue, naturally. But a nice, bright green-blue. With flower like designs in a darker shade of the same color. Lime green hoodie tassles.

It's perfect.

I tried it on, fearing the worst - that it wouldn't fit.

But it did.

Like a glove.

And it cost so little, so little. I would have paid triple the amount for this delightful hoodie.

On top of it's perfectness appearance wise, I've since discovered, in the whole 2 days I've owned it, that it is lucky, too.

Last night was lucky.

Then this morning, I actually got out of the door not only on time, but early. You may not understand just exactly how lucky that is. I'll give references if you're interested.

I was starving as I drove to pick up my carpooling buddy, Brittany. Like my stomach is eating itself kind of hunger pains. Rare, but intense. And it just so happens that Brittany is staying in a hotel down the street from her house (complicated - that I won't provide references for) and right there through the window I see the Continental Breakfast! I called her up and she picked me up some breakfast. That’s right, folks, free breakfast. A bagel and strawberry yoghurt.

We made it to work on time, another miracle, considering the traffic and broken stop lights.

Then at work, a vendor, THANK YOU TEK SYSTEMS! brought my office-mate Julie 2 barrels of Einstein Brothers Bagels! Julie, bless her heart, doesn't like bagels. So I offered to go get the beloved bread stuffs for her.

The guy from TEK Systems was tall, cute, young and wasn't wearing a ring.

He shook my hand.

I then proceeded to eat a cinnamon raisin bagel with cinnamon-almond spread. SIIIIGGGHHH.

Then I had a cheese bagel with whipped cream cheese. SIIIIIGGGHHH.

Both delectable and completely free.

This is most assuredly a lucky hoodie. I told my sister I thought it was lucky, and she rightly said,

Then why did she give it up? What happened that was so lucky? And I think that’s awesome… Maybe your car windows will stop cracking.

(For those of you who don’t know – Plato’s Closet is a clothing exchange. You can take your old clothes and get money for them)

I think the girl who owned this jacket before me had such tremendous luck, and then as part of the great luck she lost lots of weight, and so when she could no longer wear it she took this lucky hoodie to Plato’s Closet to spread the good luck around.

Julie, my office-mate, thinks it’s like a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants type thing.

I concur.

But for now, let the luck roll on!

Brittney

Ode on a Rambo

Oh Rambo
Where art Thou?

Once upon a moon so clear,
we were together, you and I, dear
We talked and laughed endless hours
But together we did not take any showers.

White Christmas, Gilmore Girls, Coraline -
Oh for you, I shall always pine!
So much time, so much fin
And then, like that - our time was done!

A series of flights we took
But together, no need for a book.
Our destination would sepersate us, my love
Into two different worlds, we've been shoved.

With one day together in a land so supreme,
The architecture divine, simply a dream!
Let's break into a cathedral (twice for good measure) and i'll make sure you're fed
With your weight in pastries, cheese and God's bread.

We'll stand behind a drug lord
And never, ever be bored.
We'll get lost and ride around the track
But in the end, don't worry - we'll get back!

But good memories alone, won't make it
The time apart, definitely will shake it!
Texts and chats alone - no no!
So to you, my love, I will go!

Two (possibly three) nights
We'll never, ever turn off the lights!
You'll be there, yes you will,
All weekend we'll be keepin' it real

Because I'm a better poet
AND YOU KNOW IT!

Brittney

Plight of the Underdog

In our office, our conference rooms are named. Each floor has a theme. I work on the third floor, and our theme is women from the Bible. So we have Ruth, Esther, Martha, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Rachel, Leah, Miriam, Sariah, Naomi, Hannah, Mary and Eve.
Some rooms are larger, some smaller.
I am constantly booking rooms for meetings.
And I’ve noticed, whenever I’m booking a small room, I only want to book Leah. I won’t book Rachel unless it is the ONLY option. If I can’t get Leah, I’ll book Hannah because I love the name.
So, why is this?

Because I feel so sad for Leah. My heart aches for her, and her plight. I mean, being so much less attractive than her sister, suffering from constantly being compared. That sucks. And then, her younger sister has suitors, and she does not. Talk about a hit right to the gut. To make a tragic end to the story, she gets married only after a man who LOVES and WANTS her sister, is tricked into marrying her. Imagine his anger and frustration when he sees Leah’s face? He then is married to her for 7 years, working and pining to marry her sister. And then she lives married to a man hopeless in love with her sister, probably never really feeling like she is loved or wanted.

Is there anything more tragic than the plight of this young biblical figure?
In my mind, by booking Leah and only Leah, I’m somehow making up for all the tragedies she endured in her life. I’m telling her, somehow, that I love her more than I do Rachel. And in my mind, somehow, that makes her story a little less tragic.
For more on Leah and others' takes on it go here.

Brittney
