Dad's Egyptian Head - Real or Replica?
When we were in Egypt, Dad wanted to get something really Egyptian. We fought him on it (no one really was interested in heavy stone carvings of an Egyptian head or something similar).
We thought we'd made it free and clear, until at the airport to fly home, Dad beelined for one last souvenir shop. He came back with a 50lb stone head.
As we went through security, they looked at the head for a long time. Then they called in more security guys to look at the head. They called in their bosses and artifact security. They couldn't tell if the head was a replica, or the real deal.
45 minutes later, reinforcements were on the way. They called in 2-4 Egyptologists to come look at the head and give their professional declaration before we were permitted to take the head home with us.
After over an hour, at least 10 people looking at the head, the decision was inconclusive. They could not decide whether the head was real or not.
So they let us take it home.
Side note - this was also the trip where Taylor set of small fireworks in the security line of the airport.
Side side note - this is also the trip where Taylor bought an Egyptian dagger and didn't tell my parents. He also didn't tell the security personnel in Bahrain that there were weapons in his luggage when they asked. They were not delighted to open the bag and find a big dagger sitting on top of his underwear. Nor were my parents.
