Winter Wonderland

It's been a very snowy winter! It's been cold, snowy and icy. I've never experienced snow and ice like this, not even in my time in Rexburg (I'm sure I did in Alaska, but I was not a driver and too young to really remember).

The cave has been especially treacherous. The stairs have been so snowed in over night, you can't even see where one stair starts and the next begins. Then once the snow stopped - the ice began. Those stairs are steep and narow and ICY. A death trap. The ice has been getting so thick you have to take an ax to them to get the ice off. I worry very much for Trevor coming down those - his feet are so big, half his foot hangs off the step, add ice onto it and they are truly dangerous. Luckily for me he's a sweetheart and cleans them off for me.

These are pictures from just one of the many snow storms we've gotten this year (note - all this snow happened over night!! Crazy!).

I LOVE SNOW!!!

450 yards with a 300wsm

...And I hit the target. On my first (and only) shot. At dusk. Yes, I am awesome! I told Dad and he was super impressed, so you know that means something.

It was so perfectly beautiful, I ended up taking more pictures than shooting. I only had my itouch, so the photos aren't as great as they could have been.

The target is at the end of this road, where you can't even see anymore. That is 450 yards, in case you were wondering.

Our makeshift gun table. The tailgate and a fold-up chair.

Ray shot quite a bit while I talked myself into doing it. Seriously, every time he pulled the trigger the kickback hit me clear on the other side of the truck. He kept letting me it sounded/looked way worse than it was, blah blah blah. I kinda believed him, kinda felt like he was full of crap - but my pride was far too big not to do it. So I did. I knew it would be intense, and the kick would be brutal, but it was way worse than I expected. I had a a massive bruise for 3 weeks.

By the time it came my turn to shoot, it was almost dark. At 450 yards in the dark, shooting the scariest gun ever, I still hit the target. I was very, very proud of myself. Ray took one more shot after me, and he hit something. The gate at the end of the road. Put a huge ding in it, and took off the paint. Whoops. We are so, so sorry, gateowner!
