Sunday School

Trevor and I got called to be ward missionaries. So far it's been great - a lot of work though.

This week was my first week teaching the Gospel Essentials class. I was beyond nervous, but Trevor helped me think through things and was really supportive.

The topic was "The Creation". I found a talk by Elder Nelson that had a piece in it that really touched me:

"While visiting the British Museum in London one day, I read a most unusual book. It is not scripture. It is an English translation of an ancient Egyptian manuscript. From it, I quote a dialogue between the Father and the Son. Referring to His Father, Jehovah—the premortal Lord—says:

“He took the clay from the hand of the angel, and made Adam according to Our image and likeness, and He left him lying for forty days and forty nights without putting breath into him. And He heaved sighs over him daily, saying, ‘If I put breath into this [man], he must suffer many pains.’ And I said unto My Father, ‘Put breath into him; I will be an advocate for him.’ And My Father said unto Me, ‘If I put breath into him, My beloved Son, Thou wilt be obliged to go down into the world, and to suffer many pains for him before Thou shalt have redeemed him, and made him to come back to his primal state.’ And I said unto My Father, ‘Put breath into him; I will be his advocate, and I will go down into the world, and will fulfil Thy command.’”

I love everything about this. I love how it shows Heavenly Father as such a loving Father. Ah. My new favorite quote. I could go on and on.

Happy Sunday from the Schauerhamers!!!

Camping in the cold

We've been wanting to go camping for a while now. But, this summer was pretty crazy (you know, just getting married is all) and we couldn't find a time to make it work.

We got tons of camping stuff for our wedding. Brock gave us a tent, a huge cooking griddle and the grill to go with it. Brock's parents gave us a camping kitchen.

Cody gave us a dutch oven.

Brittney and Randy gave us a camping kitchen and a little camping portable stove with propane.

We packed up all our stuff after work on Friday, borrowed an air mattress and some other things from Trev's parents, and headed to Strawberry Reservoir.

It took about an hour an half to get there, and the sun was going down by the time we reached. then it took us another hour to find a camping site.

Strawberry Reservoir is so incredibly beautiful. It was so amazing to drive around in the mountains and watch the sun set.

We found a campsite in the dark, set up the tent, air mattress, made a fire and started to cook the tinfoil dinners and the dutch oven peach cobbler. It was freezing (about 30 degrees when we pulled in).

I thought we'd be fine with quilts and Trevor is a heater. So I took 3 thick quilts (I thought this was overkill) and we set up our bed.

As soon as the fire was out, it got soooo cold.

I was shivering so badly, couldn't sleep. It was pretty miserable, and Trevor was cold as well (Trevor being cold is a pretty big deal).

Trev got so worried about me, about 1 he decided our best bet was to grab the portable stove Brittney and Randy got us for our wedding we were supposed to use to cook for breakfast, and instead burn it in the tent to keep us warm.

It worked so well! It helped warm up the tent. We thought maybe the fumes were going to kill us, so Trev unzipped the top vent to let some air out - and ice fell on us. It was that cold.

We finally got some sleep, and I was cold but survived. Trevor was really cold, colder than I realized - since not all the covers were on him so I'd be warmer. What an amazing husband.

I, of course, had to pee in the middle of the night. It was so cold and I didn't want to go outside, but it was an emergency. Trevor said he'd come with me, and I told him I could manage alone. He insisted - I needed someone to protect me. So he grabbed the ax and came with me to protect me. My knight in shining armor! He has his concealed carry permit, and he carries most everywhere we go. But when we go camping? He forgets. We heard lots of scary sounding animals pretty close, and it honestly made me kind of nervous. And we had no gun. Just an axe.

This is what we found in the morning:

But it's so beautiful! Worth being cold all night for.

Trev, making a morning fire for us.

Cutting wood. He really looks like true mountain man.

Our new dutch oven!

Trev got the adorable idea to carve our initials into a tree. He's so freaking cute!

"TBS"

Driving on the way home. Dirty, cold but happy.

On the way home, we drove super slow with the windows down on the dirt roads through the mountains. It was beautiful and perfect.

We had so much fun. I love camping, but especially camping with Trevor.

Condoms

In high school, Taylor and his friends bought a pack of condoms.

They went around and put them on tailpipes of cars and waited for them to explode.

One of Taylor's friends planted one in the family car to be funny.

My mom found it.

She came in the house, yelling and crying at Taylor.

"THIS IS YOUR SALVATION!"

He didn't think she would believe the truth, so he said he didn't know anything about it.

When my dad came home, he told him the story.

My dad's response?

"Taylor. I know how big a penis is, and I know how big a tailpipe is."

BEST.DAD.QUOTE.EVER.

I made this condom balloon for Trevor. I drew a face on it so it'd be a happy condom.

Who knew when condoms were blown up they look like nipples?

I gave it to him and he laughed but didn't really care as much about my gift as I would have appreciated. So I put it on our entertainment center, so we could fully appreciate how funny and artistic I am.

Unfortunately we forgot it was there for weeks and we had people over during that time, and one day after the home teachers left, Trev came into our bedroom holding the condom balloon, stating it had been there, on the entertainment center, front and center, the whole time the home teachers had been there, sitting on our couch, right across from the entertainment center.

Thats embarrassing.

FHE

For FHE this week (our actual first FHE since we've been married... we've tried to do it every week but keep forgetting...) we went and got pedicures.

Trevor had never had a pedicure before. He was slightly apprehensive.

But as soon as he turned on that massage chair - he was in heaven.

He even got his toes painted (after much duress, haha. He picked my color and I picked his. I was nice - gave him a natural nail color).

His giant football feet didn't really fit into the slippers they give you.

Seriously, funnest night ever. Relaxing and enjoyable. We went home and watched Once Upon a Time - our new Netflix TV series.

Sunday Stroll

We had stake conference and it ended at 12, and it was a BEAUTIFUL DAY. Starting to feel more like fall. Not too hot, but very sunny.

So we decided after church to go on a Sunday stroll in the mountains. Last year I took Lacey up to Donut Falls in Big Cottonwood Canyon, and it's beautiful and an easy hike so we decided to go there.

It's about 9 miles up the canyon - which made for a long and beautiful drive with the windows down (we were stuck behind the SLOWEST car, so it was a really long drive for only 9 miles).

We parked and had a snack, then walked up to the falls. We played around on the rocks and both got our shoes soaking wet, but it's fun to let your inner child out sometimes.

I can't help but kiss this guy!

I feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful place. Where hikes like this are so close and accessible.

It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, walking hand in hand through the mountains, next to a stream. It smelled SO GOOD it's unbelievable. One of my favorite things about being in the mountains - how good it smells.

Surprise Date Night

Tonight, Trevor took me on a surprise date night.

Those are my favorite.

We went to a restaurant we've been wanting to try - the Asian Star. The sushi was great - and so was the rest of the food. And the portions were huge, so we had leftover dinner for the next day too.

After dinner we went to a Nicklecade.  So much fun!

When I was little, I played Pinball on our computer ALL THE TIME. But I'd never actually played it in real life. Trevor wanted to document this historical moment in my life:

Date nights with this guy are the BEST!

Since today is Friday the 13th, we decided we ought to watch something scary. I hate scary movies. So we compromised and picked the best Friday the 13th movie ever - Ghostbusters!

Snuggles

Trev got me this giraffe for valentines day last year. I love it. I sleep with it every night.

A couple weeks ago Trev got me an elephant to go along with my giraffe (my two favorite animals).

I got up for work the other morning, went to the bathroom and came back, finding my adorable husband snuggling with my elephant and giraffe.

I'm pretty sure this man will be the best father in the world, hands down.

LOVE HIM!!!!!

Plain White T's

We went to the Utah State Fair (I LOVE FAIRS!!!! They are one of my favorite things in this whole world, and I look forward to the fair all year) and saw Plain White T's in concert.

I love their songs.

My favorite by far is Hey There Delilah, which was so fun hearing live.

It was fun going with Trevor. Our first year going to the fair together. Our second concert.

Brittney
