East Millcreek YSA

Trevor and I met in our singles ward. The East Millcreek Young Single Adult ward.
I was going through papers and I found the ward directory from when we met.

I remember getting this directory. I had to take it to work for my calling, so I could text people about the ward temple trip.

Jeff saw it, and some other guys who sat around me came over and they went through it and assessed each of the guys. The ones I should and shouldn't date.

They especially picked on the guys with beards. I know for a fact they made fun of Trevor for his. And they made fun of his last name - telling me not to consider that one! Hahaha.

I hadn't met Trevor yet - so I didn't think anything of it. Then I met that handsome bearded man at the dance, and we started to date... I was nervous to tell Jeff who this mystery guy was because of the beard bashing that had taken place.

Such good memories :)

Here I am. Very dateable, I'd say!

And here's Trevor. I've actually never seen him with this particular beard. His was way more grown out when we met.

Such fun memories. Glad I found this!

One Million... and Twenty

Co-Worker – (Said to me, in reference to another co-worker who is probably 45 years old, married with 4 kids) “He is good looking. Solid testimony.” *wink* *wink*

Me – (Completely indignant) “He’s like 45 years old! And he’s married!”

Co-worker – “I just think you’re being a little too picky. What’s 20 years in the scheme of things? You think people in the Celestial Kingdom are going to be like “”Wow, she is a million years old and he’s a million and twenty years old. That’s a big age gap!”” No, they aren’t! So just stop limiting your prospects!”

Duly noted. Thanks, Dave, for being so helpful in my dating life. With this new outlook, I minds well go husband shopping at the Retirement Home.

Love,

Brittney

Married

I went to Excel training last week. I highly enjoy going to trainings – it makes me feel hardcore. Like – really legit.

I walked in about 5 minute early, but the whole banquet room at the Radisson was full. There were over 100 people there, in long tight banquet tables. Every seat was taken. There were a couple random seats in the middle of the tables, where I’d have to squeeze past 5 or 6 people or more.

This is where my shyness really comes out – in big settings like this. I hate having to squeeze past people, while lots of people watch. It makes me uncomfortable.

So I walk in, and immediately this guy turns and looks at me. This really cute guy. He doesn’t just look – our eyes meet and he keeps looking at me. I’m scanning the room looking for a seat, and nothing really is open. The seat closest to the end of the table is right next to this cute guy who is still looking at me. I’m really shy when it comes to guys and dating and all that – so going and sitting next to him was way out of my comfort zone. Really forward. But honestly that was the best option for seating. So I went and sat next to him.

We introduced ourselves and were kinda joking around. And I thought, “this guy is cute and awesome!” and then I realized, I hadn’t checked for a wedding ring. So I looked over, and indeed there was a ring on his finger. Sad! Of course I would sit next to the cute awesome MARRIED guy. The training started and he continued to joke with me and we were just having fun, and I noticed – wait – there is no ring on his finger. Hmmm… I’ve seen a ring before and thought they were married, then noticed it was on the middle finger, not the ring finger. But there was no ring at all on his hand. Really weird. And he’s really flirting with me. So I start to think maybe he’s going through a divorce. The divorce is really new, he hadn’t yet taken off his wedding ring – then he sits next to a girl he things is nice, and realized he isn’t married and should take of the ring…

He continues flirting with me, leaning in, sitting close… and then he mentions going through a divorce. Ah ha! So that was it… he talks about how crazy she was, and all this stuff… and mentions the divorce is the best thing that could have happened… lunch comes around and he asks me if I want to have lunch with him? Did I mention he is really cute and completely my type? So I said yes.

We went outside and he drives this sweet truck. Keeps getting better and better. We eat lunch, and he’s really flirting and I’m having a blast – he’s making me laugh and is just cool. The check comes – and that always makes me awkward. I didn’t really know what to do/say – so I just said I can pay for my portion? And he says no, he’s got this. Then he took me out for gelato after.

The rest of the training went the same, joking around, laughing, flirting. It was very entertaining. He owns his own business and he showed me his website – so I knew where he worked, his name, etc – and he was saying how I know all his information – and I mentioned all he really knew about me was the company I work for and my first name.

As we were leaving, he looked over at my instructor evaluation form, where I had written my full name. We got outside and ready to part, and he didn’t ask me for my number. I was kinda disappointed, but I mean if the guy is going through a divorce, the last thing he should be doing is picking up girls. And although I really thought he was great and had fun, I’m not really looking for a divorced guy.

So I went on my way, never to see him again.

I was mentioning the story to a friend, how crappy it was to meet a great guy I actually liked and had fun with, who turns out is going through a divorce. Boo. She told me to add him on Facebook. I’m not going to add him on FB when he could have gotten my number and didn’t. Curiosity did get the best of me and I looked him up on FB. His profile picture was one of him, his wife and 2 little girls. WHAAAT? His about me said something to the effect of: I love my wife and girls, they are my life, etc. Ummm… this divorce but be really, really new! That explains why the ring was still on… no way I’m adding this guy on FB! He’s still married!! Eek!! So I exit out and don’t think about him any more.

On Fathers Day, I get a friend request from him. What!? He added me on FB? So I go through his pictures, and he’s still very, very married!! Then I see his wife had written on his wall for Father Day about how much she loves him and what a great Dad he is, etc. That doesn’t sound like a divorced wife to me… then I remembered he’d said his wife was crazy and said some random stories – so I assume she is crazy and just not accepting the divorce?

Then I notice he’s responded to her post of love – saying how much he loves her!!!!!! WHAT? Not only is he married, he’s not going through a divorce and he’s definitely not intending to be from the looks of it!!!

But why add me on FB when it’s OBVIOUS he’s married?? Gag. A couple days later, he wrote me a message asking me how training was the second day (he couldn’t come that day). Initiating more contact….

WEIRD.

So anyways, I went on a really awesome date with a married man. I feel super weird about it (clearly).

I keep thinking maybe I misinterpreted, and it really was innocent? But he did take off his ring, he bought me lunch, flirted with me, asked me how I was still single – inquiring about my dating status, added me on FB and wrote me a message. All things married men should not, in my opinion, do.

I mean he could have mentioned how he was married?? Especially where there was no ring on his finger.

The saddest part about the whole thing (well besides his poor wife) is I really could have seen myself liking him. It was a really fun date.

Except he’s MARRIED.

I told my co-workers (all men) and they were so weirded out and told me that his actions were really iffy and I wasn’t misinterpreting them or making a bigger deal about it than it was…

Suggestions so far for handling the situation have been:

• Delete him off FB and never talk to him or respond to his email (probably the best option and what will happen).

• Write on his wall, “Thanks so much for taking me to lunch. I had so much fun!” (so his wife can see what he’s doing in his free time – taking young single girls out and flirting with them and taking off his wedding ring).

• Tell his bishop (Ha).

So basically, I need to go on a really great date asap so I can’t say the last awesome date I went on was with a married man.

Items 1-5

Item #1

I got free lunch the other day from Kneaders - my favorite!

Sadly, putting anything in the fridge is a risky affair. Not everyone in the office seems to understand that if you didn’t put it the fridge, you can’t have it. I decided to not take any chance with my beloved Kneaders.

At lunch I went to grab it, and someone had written Gen 3:4 on it. I assumed that was the “Thou shalt not kill passage”.

Wrong.

Genesis 3:4 – “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:”

HAHAHA.

How did someone know that scripture off the top of their head? Cracked me up. Best lunch ever.

Item # 2

Item #3

I got into an “argument” with a guy I work with. Over something ludicrous, naturally. He finally conceded a, “you win”.

Then he proceeded to give me a freaking lame “trophy” in reward.

I told him the trophy was lame.

He tried again.

And again.

I told him I knew he could do better.

He said, “Ok. You’ll get your trophy.”

20 minutes later, I see him walking to my desk, holding a big box. He’s got paper over the top so I can’t see what he’s got. He goes to show me, and realizes it broke in the journey to my desk.

He walks away, and comes back 5 minutes later.

And this is what he’s got:

Ah!! He made me a trophy!!! How cute is that!!??

He even used whiteout to make decorations on the pink paper.

Item #4

I got a pretty flower. Smells good, too! Great addition to my desk.

Item #5

I’ve always kept my nails super short. I play the violin, so nails are really just a nuisance. I’ve never painted them, got manicures or anything of the sort. The moment they got any length, I’d be annoyed and chop them off.

I haven’t been practicing like I should, lately. My nails show that fact – and my laziness. They’ve been driving me crazy, but I just hadn’t found the time/effort/supplies to trim them.

But they bothered me.

One day, one of my friends looked at my nails and said, “Are those your real nails!? They are gorgeous!”

And for the first time, I looked at my nails and didn’t see them as a nuisance. I realized they are, in fact, gorgeous! I have gorgeous nails!

So I went and bought nail polish. With the assistance of Samar, of course – I selected this hot purple/pink shade.

Yeeaahh, baby!

I have people comment on how nice they look daily. No one believes they are my real nails and I didn’t do anything to them.

I’d rather my hair grow fast and long and thick, instead of my nails. Maybe if I pray hard enough, God will make my nails weak and short and bless me with thick, long hair?

Until then, I’ll just be vain about my nails.

Mice

Yesterday, Nancy comes over to Julie and my desk, holding her shoe.

“There is a mouse!”

I’m not wearing shoes. No socks. Totally roughing it at my nicely carpeted desk (Nancy sits in front of me and to the right. Like, I can see her if I really wanted to).

So we have a mouse problem. Awesome. I’d actually prefer that to the Amazon bloodsucking bedbug/tick/unkillable creature that infested the office last summer. Some genius soul traveled there, purchased a hammock, and kindly hung it on the 4th floor, where the alien-to-Utah creatures reproduced in abundance (did I mention this genius soul worked for Intel – who occupied the building BEFORE we moved in? Which means the bugs lived for something like 6 months in an unfinished 4th floor with no people? And the building was sprayed specifically to kill them).

Mice.

So, Nancy was all ready to kill the mouse with the heel of her shoe.

Seriously? I can think of a thousand better alternatives than that. Most of which don’t directly include me, but include one of the guys who sit near me.

Today, there is all kinds of commotion in the cubicles behind me, and the guys come over,

“Did you see the mouse!? It ran right by you.”

Great. They are moving in, closer to me. Naturally they would.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m not afraid of mice. But I don’t LIKE them. I don’t like the idea of some nasty furry running rodent around my feet, scurrying around me and touching me and startling me.

After the mouse goes scurrying by, I message the Office Manager, and let her know there has been another sighting. Her response?

“The mice are either spooked or comfortable to be out in the open like that.

Would you like me to request some traps around your cubicle?

*so far so good*

They would most likely get the sticky ones - which would mean you'd most likely see and hear a mouse trapped on those sticky things. They squeal like crazy when they are stuck on those things. Then if you don't throw it away, it will die and decompose. Kinda gruesome, actually.”

Are you kidding me???? Seriously?

NO THANKYOU.

I’d rather have them running past me than agonizingly/slowly/loudly dying and decomposing next to me.

A moment later, I get an IM from a lady who works next to the Office Manager.

“Squeek Squeek”

Funny. Now the whole 4th floor is in on my pain – and not only that – they think it’s funny.

Now i'm reduced to a covered shoe only policy, and I keep my feet off the floor.

Perfect.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m in a meeting. One of the guys walks in, and asks about my dating life. Am I engaged? (This is everyone’s but my favorite discussion)
I give him the death stare."No, haven't met him yet, thanks for checking in."
Julie: “It’s ok; he probably died in the war in Heaven.”
Great.
Thanks, guys.
Love,
Brittney
