Happy First Year Anniversary!!!

This year has been insane...

I’ve had 3 different jobs, Trevor has had 2 (all within the same companies, just different positions). We’re on our 3rd move (2 of which I’ve done pregnant). We’ve gotten (accidentally) pregnant. Found out we’re expecting boy/girl twins. Bought a house. Taken trips, dealt with personal struggles, made life altering decisions.

They say the first year of marriage is the hardest. The first 4 months or so were pretty hard at times, I won’t lie. Learning to be married isn’t always easy. Learning to live with someone from a completely different background. Learning how to be a wife wasn’t always as intuitive as I expected it would be. Overcoming certain expectations, understanding how I work, my needs, and communicating those needs was a challenge I didn’t expect.

But one thing is for certain – I married the best man in the world.

I thought I knew Trevor when we got engaged. I was terrified of getting married, but loved him so we did it – got married.

I’ve realized now I didn’t really know him before we were married. I did, to a degree, enough to know he is worth marrying – but I truly know him so much better now. And I hit the jackpot with him.

He tells me he loves me and I am beautiful multiple times a day. I kid him, because he isn’t good with words. As in, writing me love notes or stuff of that nature. But the guy is amazing at reminding me he loves me all day. He doesn’t do it in a routine, habitual way. Every time he says it so I know he really means it. And he tells me I’m beautiful. Even now, when I’m hugely pregnant with twins, swollen and fat and feel so unattractive – he tells me I am beautiful. And I know he means it, because he looks at me in his Trevor way with such sincerity.

He is so service oriented. He’s always willing to help a friend, even if it is inconvenient. He over books himself, because he can’t turn someone down. He serves me non-stop. He makes me breakfast every day, which I can’t begin to say how much it means to me. With this pregnancy, his thoughts are for my well-being from morning night. He puts himself and his needs on the back burner every single day.

He’s happy. Seriously, he’s always happy. He rarely gets moody. He’s solid. I’ve always loved how he’s such a happy guy, but never realized what a true blessing it is in my life until after marriage. With all the changes and curve balls life has thrown at us, this man has never ceased to smile about it. He takes it as it comes and enjoys it. With as sick as I’ve been this pregnancy, he has every right to get frustrated with me or at least the frustrating situation – but he doesn’t. He continues to wake up every morning and make me breakfast with a smile on his face. I love this about him.

I could go on and on. Trevor is seriously my best friend. We have so much fun together, all the time. I am way more in love with him today than I was a year ago when we got married. He makes me want to be a better person. I still get butterflies when he kisses me, when he’s on his way home from work and I can’t wait to see him.  This pregnancy has been totally unexpected and quite difficult, but it’s brought us closer together and for that I am so grateful.

I’m excited for the next year, to see the joys it brings. We will be a family of 4! HOLY COW!

Trevor Freaking Schauerhamer, I love you more than I can say. You have become part of me. I still fall asleep at night thanking God that you are by my side. That I am lucky enough to be your wife.

Love,

Brittney

4 months married!

Went to a new Greek place downtown on our anniversary date night, then walked around.

Interesting fact - as we took this picture, Trevor's ex-girlfriend awkwardly walked by with a girlfriend. Trevor says after they've passed, "I think that was my ex-girlfriend."

He thinks. He's like, 90% sure. Haha. Cracks me up. Glad Trev's ex-girlfriend could witness our 4 month married date night picture.

1 Year Dating Anniversary

Today is our 1 year anniversary of being an official couple.

1 year that I’ve thought about Trevor every single day.

1 year that I haven’t kissed (nor wanted to!) anyone else.

1 year that I haven’t gone on a first date, or any date that wasn’t with Trevor.

It’s been really hard at times.

I’ve cried a lot.

I’ve learned a lot.

I've laughed SO MUCH.

I’ve loved more than I knew I could.

And I’ve been happier I knew I could be.

Living with my best friend is so much better than I could have imagined it would be.

It’s so crazy to think, that over a year ago I was single, no real prospects. I was really enjoying life (I had this feeling I was going to meet someone in my new ward, so I actually didn't go to my new ward for like a month because I was so scared of meeting someone and "ruining" my life, haha).

And then one day I happened to meet Trevor and the rest of my life changed so drastically so quickly.

In honor of this day, here is what I wrote in my journal about October 28, 2012:

(This was a Sunday. We had spent the afternoon looking for a missing man ((a 90 year old man in the area had gone missing and the police were organizing a search party)) and then gone to his house to watch the Walking Dead with his family. First time I met them. First time I watched ((heard of)) the Walking Dead ((if only I had known then this show would become such a part of my Sunday! The Schauerhamer’s watch it as a family every Sunday)).

"On the way to drop me off, Trevor asked me what I thought about us and our relationship and dating, etc. And we both thought we weren’t ready to be serious, but that we were ready to be in a relationship. He said ok, and went to get out of the car. So I said, “are you going to ask me something?” and he was confused, so I said “is there something you want to ask me?” and he finally caught on and asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend, and I said yes and then we made out."

And there you have it, the most romantic “will you be my girlfriend” in the history of the world.

HAPPY 1 YEAR, BAAAAAAAAAABBY!

3 Month Anniversary

Today is our 3 month anniversary.

WOW.

Also this month, we hit our one year mark of being together.

Also WOW.

It feels like we’ve been married a lot longer than 3 months. We’ve done so much in the last 3 months (we are honestly too busy sometimes) it makes it feel longer.

Our 3rd month together has been pretty spectacular. Seriously. It gets better each month thus far. We’re starting to fall more into a rhythm, and it is nice.

For dinner on Sunday, Trevor cooked the most amazing hamburgers and made coleslaw and potato salad. It took him 4 hours. And it was all AMAZING.

Yesterday (this is the first time this has ever happened) I got to work, the gas light in Tim turned on, and I had forgotten my wallet at home. I tried to pay with a check but you have to have your ID. Which was in my wallet.

I was unsure I’d be able to make it home on empty, and Trevor told me he’d come get me, bring me gas, meet me at a gas station, whatever I wanted. I ended up getting home fine, but it’s so nice to know that if an emergency happens, he will happily rescue me.

I love him much more now than I did when we got married.

I love celebrating… I’ll celebrate anything. So we’re celebrating each month, and then after a year we’ll keep it to every year. But it’s fun to celebrate each month up to a year! And we are also celebrating our 1 year dating anniversary this month. We’re going to go to Frightmares on our 1 year date anniversary, which we went to Frightmares on our first date.

Here’s to a month of celebrating us!

Love,
Brittney

10 Month Aniversary

10 months!
I can’t believe Trevor has only been in my life for 10 months, it feels like so much longer than that (not in a dragging, mundane way, but just in an – I can’t believe you ever weren’t in my life way).
It’s been a pretty phenomenal 10 months.
Trevor is so good to me and for me.
I’m constantly amazed at how humble he is, how willing he is to work on himself and us. If I get upset about something, he’s so willing to listen and understand what I’m saying and why I’m feeling the way I am. And then he’s so willing to change whatever it is that needs to be changed.
That’s all I can really ask for in a husband. Neither of us will ever be perfect – but knowing that he is always willing to try harder for me, to be better for me, is so amazing.
He’s truly the best man I’ve ever met.
So here are the highlights from each month we’ve been together thus far. It’s a pretty sad list – but it’s the best I’m doing right now.

5 Months

So, I’ve heard a lot of advice on dating/marriage over the years. People have said to make sure you date longer than 6 months to get engaged – because people start to get more comfortable in relationships about that point. They stop trying to be on their best behavior all the time. Their real personality comes out.

That’s always scared me. And the longer you know someone, it’s true – the more their real personality comes out.

Trev and I are at 5 months. And we’re becoming even more comfortable with each other. Our personalities are coming out more and more. We’re less reserved, say weirder things, and don’t really worry what the other person is thinking about us if we say a certain thing. The unconditional love bit is coming through, I suppose.

AND I LOVE IT.

Neither of us has ever put on a front or tried to be something/someone we aren’t. We have been real and honest the whole time.

BUT.

There has been a level of… holding back? A little. Not a ton. And I didn’t even really realize it was happening until lately, Trevor has been cracking me up ALL THE TIME.

And I realized, as we’ve gotten to know each other better, dated longer (lets be honest, 5 months is pretty epic for a dating couple) we’ve both held back less. I didn’t even know Trevor was doing it.

He’s always been funny… but as he’s been holding back less and we’ve felt more comfortable – his sense of humor has really gone crazy. Some of it is probably I get him better than I used to, so I think he’s funnier… but a lot of it is that he’s filtering less and I love it!

He makes me laugh all the time. ALL THE TIME. He says the weirdest/dumbest/most ridiculously funny things.

I think it’s a good sign – when most people have warned me to be weary of the 5-6 month mark because personalities come out stronger, that instead of him driving me crazy or realizing things about him I don’t like - I’m loving him more than ever.

PS – He had a man night last night. Gym and Tucanos, most likely followed by some sort of gaming… can’t get much manlier than that. So I didn’t see him yesterday. He texted me before he went to bed,

“Baby! I know I am so in love with you when I miss you on man night!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!”

Umm…. Ok seriously? How can I honestly resist a man as sweet as this?

Brittney
